Kerry promises the bring up The Downing Street Memo in Washington on Monday -- "It's not being missed on the Internet, I can tell you that."

On SouthcoastToday.com, webpage of The Standard-Times (not exactly the major mainstream media yet) "Kerry assails Bush on Iraq" (and raises The Downing Street Memo!) 6/ 2/ 2005:
"Sen. Kerry puzzled over the apparent lack of interest by Americans in the Iraq war and the near silence in the U.S. mass media about the so-called Downing Street Memo.
That leaked secret document, the minutes of a 2002 cabinet meeting of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, says bluntly that Mr. Bush had decided to attack Iraq long before going to Congress with the matter, and that 'intelligence was being fixed around the policy.'
It caused an uproar in Great Britain and badly hurt Mr. Blair in national elections but went almost unnoticed in the United States.
'When I go back (to Washington) on Monday, I am going to raise the issue,' he said of the memo, which has not been disputed by either the British or American governments. 'I think it's a stunning, unbelievably simple and understandable statement of the truth and a profoundly important document that raises stunning issues here at home. And it's amazing to me the way it escaped major media discussion. It's not being missed on the Internet, I can tell you that.' "

Will the media outside of New Bedford, Massachusetts pick this up?

Hey, isn't it great to be doing something about this? :-)

It does feel good to be banging this particular drum at this point in history, and I'm proud of some members of Congress, especially John Conyers (and my Congressman Frank Pallone, who signed the letter), but the absence of the media in this week, when we're celebrating Deep Throat & the media's role in Watergate, is a crime.

Alan, (you cut'n'pasted the same comment twice, so I'll cut'n'paste the same response) I'm glad you brought up Dan Rather, because NO ONE has yet effectively challenged that GWB was AWOL from a cushy stateside assignment while giving lip service to another war of dubious morality (can you say hypocrisy?). But attention was diverted from that fact by a few documents of dubious authenticity that were NOT central to the argument. Now I feel that there is a document of incredible worth in our national debate about war and peace, a document whose pedigree is not in doubt, and media are ignoring it.
John Kerry can lie about medical records, his sex life, his war record, his hair color, and whether or not he ever kissed Jane Fonda or fondled the Runaway Bride or slept with Michael Jackson and it doesn't matter in the least (and anyway, where's your Purple Heart?). We, the American People, should never be neglected when it comes to deciding issues of war and peace. I have a son approaching draft age, so this is deadly fucking serious to me.
This Memo needs to become part of our national dialogue.

...You don't like what I say because it debunks the Liberal Message. Sorry

No, sorry Alan. You attack people. Actually, you attack cartoon versions of people, you do not attack, or land any blows, against messages. Like I said before, I don't care if John and Teresa Kerry bathe in ketchup with 20 of their nearest and dearest naked billionaire friends every night; it does not change anything about the credibility of the Downing Street Memo. Does it? It doesn't change the fact that Americans and Iraqis are dying for lies, does it?

I agree with Charlie Rangel that there should be a draft, without exemptions that the people of a certain class and race have usually taken advantage of, for men and women. If there were a draft that could affect the sons and daughters of Bush, Cheney, and their friends and supporters, do you think they would be as quick to go to war based on cooked intelligence? And the Downing Street Memo can not be referred to as "alleged notes that were allegedly taken by some British Defense Ministry secretary regarding a meeting report allegedly generated during a meeting that may or may not have taken place prior to the invasion in 2001". Click on the many links here or in other Alliance blogs to get the details. No one is disputing its authenticity, but the "liberal" media is not publicizing it (yet).
