Prominent Bush supporter jokes about murdering Michael Moore with his bare hands. Idiots listen to him on the radio and think he's sane.

Radio host Glenn Beck "Thinking About Killing Michael Moore" [Media Matters for America]

BECK: "Hang on, let me just tell you what I'm thinking. I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out -- is this wrong? ..."
TBL: Yes!

What's really scary is that these rightwingnut radio and television "personalities" have supporters and listeners who are even stupider and more violent than they are, and most of them are also armed. What if this jerk were expressing this same murderous fantasy about an "activist judge" or Bill or Hillary Clinton?

I just read about this. Now imagine Al Franken saying something akin to that about Rush...sheesh, he got grief for calling him a liar!!!

Where is the same damning of Randi Rhodes who had a segment on the ASSASINATION OF PRESIDENT BUSH. Double standard as usual. Since your side hates Bush this kind of behavior is ok when directed at Bush. But bad when it comes to your savior Michael Moore.

Pax Romano said...

Alan, what Rhodes did was tacky and tasteless; a skit where a retiree shoots Bush for fooling with Social Security.

I am not defending Ms. Rhodes; the skit was in bad taste.

Frankly Rhodes and this other buffoon, Glenn Beck, just prove that the style of political discourse in this country has gone to hell.

Keep in mind, though, that most talk radio these days is filled with some pretty hateful speech, most of it emanating from the right – it was only a matter of time before the left followed suit since this seems to be the only thing that main stream America seems to respond to these days.

Thanks Pax. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Thank You Pax for showing that this post should have never been posted. Two wrongs don't make a right. Talk Radio is dominated by the right. But liberals have ABC,NBC,CBS,CNN,MSNBC and about 70 percent of the newspapers. I'm sure more people watch TV and read the paper than listen to talk radio.

Corporate giants like ABC(Disney), NBC(GE!!), & CBS(Viacom) are NOT liberal media, but even assuming that they are, they are not advocating violence on the airwaves (except for their tacit support of the official violence carried out in our name by the military). This Beck guy is, and graphically. That was the point of my post. And yes, it should have been posted, if only for me to point out that I think it's wrong. You're free to post, on your own blog (or freely in my comments), that you think he's right.
Do you?

They are both wrong in doing what they did. Rhodes more so because it was about the President of the USA. My comments about ABC etc. were regarding Pax's comment about Radio being dominated by the right. If would have given you credit for your post if you included what Rhodes had done also. Your post leads people to believe that the Republicans are the only ones doing this.

Alan, Do you have a quotation for the exact words Rhodes used about killing the President? Or a link to where such a quote might exist?

I wrote a comment about one vivid personal threat for which I had a direct quote (the Media Matters link puts it in a fuller context), but I don't listen to Air America so I did not hear, or hear about, Randi Rhodes' remark.

In general, I don't think anyone should be threatening others with death. That includes you, me, radio hosts, and ex-Governors of Texas with their Wanted-Dead-or-Alive pronouncements.

TBL, Rhodes didn't make any comments. The "threat" was a gunshot sound effect in a sketch about "what to do when some spoiled rich brat wants to mess with Social Security."

If you have podcasting software, download Harry Shearer's Le Show at from two weeks ago. He reads a transcript of the sketch during his Apologies of the Week segment.

BTW, I'm the "TB" that's referenced as the reader who e-mailed in the tip, but they chose not to link to my blog.

The red-hot rhetoric over Social Security on liberal talkradio network AIR AMERICA has caught the attention of the Secret Service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Government officials are reviewing a skit which aired on the network Monday evening -- a skit featuring an apparent gunshot warning to the president!

The announcer: "A spoiled child is telling us our Social Security isn't safe anymore, so he is going to fix it for us. Well, here's your answer, you ungrateful whelp: [audio sound of 4 gunshots being fired.] Just try it, you little bastard. [audio of gun being cocked]."

The audio production at the center of the controversy aired during opening minutes of The Randi Rhodes Show.

"What is with all the killing?" Rhodes said, laughing, after the clip aired.

"Even joking about shooting the president is a crime, let alone doing it on national radio... we are taking this very seriously," a government source explained.

White House Spokesman Scott McClellan called the clip "very inappropriate and over the line."

AIR AMERICA President of Programming and co-COO Jon Sinton said in a release: "We regret that a produced comedy bit that was in bad taste slipped through our normal vetting process. We do acknowledge that it was an internal error and internal discipline will be enforced."

Rhodes apologized for the skit on Wednesday. "It was a bit,” Rhodes said. “It was bad. I apologize a thousand times."

So, the point is that once again we have the liberal media (and with the case of Air America, I'll give you that liberal label) apologizing for a mistake in judgement, even though no one graphically fantasized about strangling another human being with his bare hands, but I don't see any mea culpas coming from the right-wing radio hosts or the WMD fantasists in the government who haved killed thousands based on lies.

And you never will! You see how full of righteous indignation Right Wingers get when they are zapped; however if they do it to us it's just business as usual.

Sorry you choose to think a skit about killing the President of the United States is not in bad taste. Just a threat sends someone to jail. I have stated that both are wrong. Something you and your posters won't say. No one should be allowed to say they want to kill someone. Nor should they joke about killing the President. Since Clinton made a joke of the White House I guess again is ok to Liberals.

Alan, The Grammar God in me is very displeased (and confused), while the political part of me would just like to point out that, whatever it is you're trying to say, it was Nixon who made a joke of the White House.

Sodomizing a young Intern in the White House, while leaving your seed all over her dress is a-ok behavior with you. Your attack as so called God is the Biggest Joke. You have been exposed and can't respond just say that. Being from NJ is funny they have more politicians indicted for corruption and paying their male lovers high salaries for jobs they aren't qualified for. A true liberal mecca. They tax you for any and everything.

True Blue Liberal said...

Actually, I don't mind that most of my taxes go to great public schools and good public transportation. I do mind that New Jersey pays in much more than its fair share to prop up a bloated military and states (largely "red" states) that do NOT pay their fair share but get much more in benefits from the federal government. By the way, the crookedest politicians in my county, the ones in the pockets of McMansion developers, are ALL Republicans.

Did Bill C. sodomize Monica? I didn't hear that bit of gossip. I thought she was on her knees during a different sex act. But, really, left over seed or not, who cares? What does consensual sex between two adults have to do with anything, really?
But, since the subject was brought up, did JG/JG leave any "seed" uhmmm, behind , at the WH during one of his prolonged visits there?]

oh, never mind, don't answer that. I should never have asked the ?.
Living in a liberal mecca allows all types of free thought drifts to meander through your brain.
Although, violence isn't one of them. Both sides should cool the testosterone jets on that issue.
