Prominent Bush supporter jokes about murdering Michael Moore with his bare hands. Idiots listen to him on the radio and think he's sane.

Radio host Glenn Beck "Thinking About Killing Michael Moore" [Media Matters for America]

BECK: "Hang on, let me just tell you what I'm thinking. I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out -- is this wrong? ..."
TBL: Yes!

What's really scary is that these rightwingnut radio and television "personalities" have supporters and listeners who are even stupider and more violent than they are, and most of them are also armed. What if this jerk were expressing this same murderous fantasy about an "activist judge" or Bill or Hillary Clinton?

I just read about this. Now imagine Al Franken saying something akin to that about Rush...sheesh, he got grief for calling him a liar!!!

Alan, what Rhodes did was tacky and tasteless; a skit where a retiree shoots Bush for fooling with Social Security.

I am not defending Ms. Rhodes; the skit was in bad taste.

Frankly Rhodes and this other buffoon, Glenn Beck, just prove that the style of political discourse in this country has gone to hell.

Keep in mind, though, that most talk radio these days is filled with some pretty hateful speech, most of it emanating from the right – it was only a matter of time before the left followed suit since this seems to be the only thing that main stream America seems to respond to these days.

Thanks Pax. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Alan,
Corporate giants like ABC(Disney), NBC(GE!!), & CBS(Viacom) are NOT liberal media, but even assuming that they are, they are not advocating violence on the airwaves (except for their tacit support of the official violence carried out in our name by the military). This Beck guy is, and graphically. That was the point of my post. And yes, it should have been posted, if only for me to point out that I think it's wrong. You're free to post, on your own blog (or freely in my comments), that you think he's right.
Do you?

Alan, Do you have a quotation for the exact words Rhodes used about killing the President? Or a link to where such a quote might exist?

I wrote a comment about one vivid personal threat for which I had a direct quote (the Media Matters link puts it in a fuller context), but I don't listen to Air America so I did not hear, or hear about, Randi Rhodes' remark.

In general, I don't think anyone should be threatening others with death. That includes you, me, radio hosts, and ex-Governors of Texas with their Wanted-Dead-or-Alive pronouncements.

So, the point is that once again we have the liberal media (and with the case of Air America, I'll give you that liberal label) apologizing for a mistake in judgement, even though no one graphically fantasized about strangling another human being with his bare hands, but I don't see any mea culpas coming from the right-wing radio hosts or the WMD fantasists in the government who haved killed thousands based on lies.

TBL,
And you never will! You see how full of righteous indignation Right Wingers get when they are zapped; however if they do it to us it's just business as usual.

"Since Clinton made a joke of the White House I guess again is ok to Liberals."
Alan, The Grammar God in me is very displeased (and confused), while the political part of me would just like to point out that, whatever it is you're trying to say, it was Nixon who made a joke of the White House.

Actually, I don't mind that most of my taxes go to great public schools and good public transportation. I do mind that New Jersey pays in much more than its fair share to prop up a bloated military and states (largely "red" states) that do NOT pay their fair share but get much more in benefits from the federal government. By the way, the crookedest politicians in my county, the ones in the pockets of McMansion developers, are ALL Republicans.
