TBL's question of the day. Would you rather live in a boring country or in the U.S.A. of 2005?

"I do not think anyone can possibly understand how
boring a general election in

the world's best country really is."
Flag-waving trolls occasionally ask TBL why he doesn't just move to Canada or France (their anonymity even allows them to offer to pay my airfare). Other than the fact that my family has been here since 1732 and I feel I have as much right to stay on these shores as anyone who isn't a descendant of Pocahantas and Geronimo and Sitting Bull, I also wonder if I don't just enjoy the grappling over real political issues. If I lived in a rational country like Norway, wouldn't I be driven to act like one of those happy characters in a Munch painting or an Ibsen play? Or maybe just drink a lot?

What's your take on boredom as an alternative to life in the U.S.A. (which, of course, famously bored The Clash, but that was during the Carter years).
